Design process

  • Our free initial consultation is designed to explore your ideas, needs, and aspirations while giving you a chance to understand how we work. Whether it’s a new build, a renovation, or an interior refresh, we’ll discuss your goals, budget, and timeline in a relaxed, open environment.

This meeting is all about discovering what’s possible and offering insights that align with your vision. We’ll also talk about how we can collaborate to bring your project to life, ensuring you feel confident every step of the way.

  • The project establishment phase of work allows all information relevant to the design process to be either collected or discussed and incorporated into future works. It may include the following:

    • Prepare service agreement for execution

    • Prepare and Issue programme of services

    • Inspect site and assess conditions and constraints

    • Assess regulations, territorial authority rules, certificate of title and consent notices relevant to the site

  • The concept design phase of work transfers the information gathered during the Project Establishment Phase to a drawn form studying high level matters such as building bulk, location, form, early building planning consideration, etc. At the conclusion of this phase a rough order of cost may be obtained from a Quantity Surveyor or through early contractor engagement.

  • The developed design phase of work further develops the approved concept design to obtain a greater degree of coordination between separate consultants and to incorporate any matters resulting from a resource consent or value engineering process.

  • The detailed design phase of work builds on the developed design preparing a set of drawings, specifications and schedules allowing a building consent to be applied for and the pricing process of the building works to commence

  • This site observation phase of work runs in parallel with construction to the completion of all built works. The architectural designer’s role is to observe construction to determine that the completed work is generally in accordance with the designer’s documents.
